Buenos Aires, February 14 (NA) -- The leadership of the CGT has advanced a meeting for next Monday to discuss the possibility of calling a general strike for next week, in clear disagreement with the possible sanctioning of the Labor Reform, which will begin to be debated in the Chamber of Deputies, after its half-sanction in the Senate. The co-chairs of the CGT, Octavio Argüello (Truckers), Jorge Sola (Insurance) and Cristian Jerónimo (glass workers), decided to advance the meeting, which will be held virtually from 16:00, due to the position of several leaders who support a forceful measure. In fact, many unionists maintain that it is no longer enough to take to the streets to express their opposition to the government's project, and have explicitly requested tougher measures. Consequently, and as learned by the Argentine News agency, it is possible that the labor center will call for a strike on the day the debate on the reform begins in the lower house, probably Wednesday the 18th or Thursday the 19th. One of the points that caused the most opposition for the CGT is the one that allows reducing workers' salaries by 25 to 30 percent in case of medical leave, although they are also concerned about the issue of severance pay, working hours, and vacations. Beyond these issues, the regulation of the right to strike appears on the horizon as another conflictive point.
